While speaking at the Values Voters Summit in Washington Friday, Dr. Ben Carson, a former professor of neurosurgery, oncology and pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University, compared Obamacare to slavery and invoked the memory of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, The Blaze reported.
“I have to tell you, you know, 'Obamacare' is really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery,” he said. “In a way, it is slavery, in a way because it is making all of us subservient to the government.”
“It was never about health care,” he added. “It was about control. And that’s why – that’s why when this administration took office it didn’t matter that the country was going off the cliff economically. All forces were directed toward getting this legislation passed.”
His comments prompted a standing ovation among the 2000 attendees.
He also said Obama's signature healthcare legislation is something a former Communist leader would approve of.
“And why did they want to pass it so badly?” he asked. “Well, as I said the other night on television, Vladimir Lenin, one of the fathers of socialism and communism, said that socialized medicine is the keystone to the establishment of a socialist state.”
“Some people say, oh come on, you’re being paranoid. Why would you bring up something like that. I would say if you know anything about history, how could you not bring that up,” he added.
When people in the governing class don’t have to participate in the program, but everyone else has to, “that’s not America, that’s Russia,” he said.
CNS News observed that health care in Russia became a government-run operation after Lenin and the Bolsheviks took over in the early 20th century.
"Today, despite the collapse of communism in Russia in 1991, the life expectancy for Russian males is 63 years and females, 75 years, according to the World Health Organization. In the United States, average life expectancy for males is 76 years, and females, 81 years," CNS added.
Carson isn't the first to say Obamacare is a socialist program.
In Feb. 2011, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., called Obamacare "the crown jewel of socialism."
In March 2011, Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., admitted the massive law is a "platform" for government-controlled -- socialist -- health care.
Even then, the economics of the law were proving to be a disaster, but Obama and the Democrats forged ahead anyway.
Now, long after the bill has been passed into law, Americans are learning first-hand what Obama meant when he spoke of fundamental transformation with a part-time economy, sky-high premiums and a government that can force itself into the living rooms of a huge number of Americans.
