Dr. Ben Carson among line up of black conservatives speaking at CPAC

The Atlanta Black Star reported last night that Dr. Ben Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery, Johns Hopkins Hospital, leads a list of notable black conservatives speaking at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington DC. Dr. Carson gained notable attention for his speech last month at the National Prayer Breakfast, in the presence of President Barack Obama, where he addressed his views on health care reform, political correctness and the nation's budget and deficit situation.

Dr. Carson recently revealed he was asked for an advance copy of his National Prayer Breakfast speech by a member of the White House staff, which he refused, and then was asked not to say anything that would offend the president.

Since that speech Dr. Carson has appeared as a guest on radio and television shows such as Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh shows and has gained a great degree of support and following among many citizens for his common-sense conservative ideas. Dr. Carson is one of several black conservatives scheduled to speak at CPAC next week.

Mia Love, the Mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah who was nearly elected to Congress last year will also be speaking. Love gave what many regarded as one of the most memorable speeches at the Republican National Convention last summer, and is regarded as an up and coming conservative leader. Love is a Haitian-American who became a Mormon and tells how she was raised to believe in self-reliance, individual liberty and conservative values.

South Carolina's junior Senator, Tim Scott, will also be speaking. Scott was elected to Congress in 2010 when Republicans regained control of Congress, and earlier this year was appointed by Governor Nikki Haley to fill the vanancy left by the resignation of Jim DeMint form the senate. Scott is known as a strong conservative who was supported in his election to Congress by the Tea Party movement.

The staunchly conservative and outspoken former Florida Congressman Allen West is also on the list of speakers for CPAC. West was elected in 2010 and very narrowly defeated running for reelection to his seat on Congress last year. While in Congress, West was a member of the Republican Study Committee, the Tea Party Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus. A decorated veteran of both wars in Iraq, Allen West is hosting a show called Next Generation Today on PJ Media.

The list includes several other black conservatives, including Crystal Wright, editor and publisher of conservativeblackchick.com, Francesca Chambers, editor of Red Alert Politics, Chelsi Henry, outreach chair for the Young Republican National Federation and others.
