Dr. Alveda King and Lt. Gov Casey Cagle to speak at banquet in Fayette County

If you could save a life, would you?  The heroic efforts of the people who brought down the Tucson shooters no doubt saved the lives of a lot of people had the shooter been able to reload.

The young intern who ministered to Representative Giffords after she was shot in the head no doubt saved her life.

The men aboard Flight 93on September 11, 2001, no doubt saved the lives of perhaps thousands when they decided to act rather than let the plane go down in a heavily populated area by bringing it down in an open field.

Every day we hear of people who know and accept the sanctity of life and will risk their lives to save another.

Quietly for many decades there are men and women who work diligently to save lives in hospitals and on the battlefield.  They are dedicated to preserving life as it is a precious gift of God.  Either there is life or there is not.  Even a plant in the yard has life until it is uprooted and allowed to die.

There are also committed individuals working quietly behind the scenes daily giving of their money, time, effort, and energy to save lives; and yet we never hear about them unless we are “in the know.”

Some of these people work and volunteer at the Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center. (Faytte County is just south of Atlanta, Georgia).  They strive everyday to save the precious life of a pre-born child.  Who is to say that the life of a pre-born child is any less than that of a person who is in the US House of Representatives?

The controversy continues over the right and wrong of abortion; and it will go on perhaps forever; but the people who have dedicated portions of their lives so that others might live are not political; even though those people are needed as well to overturn Roe vs Wade.

But they work out of love and concern for innocents who do not have a voice of their own yet; but given time their voices could make a difference to the whole world. Who can determine the worth of a life?  Who can determine the worth of one life over another?

When abortion became legal in our nation, we almost immediately began to see families falling apart, lives of women affected forever, and women using abortion as a birth control method after the fact. God is the maker, creator, and giver of life.  God designed men and women in such a way that through their love and devotion to each other – a child could be conceived and born; thus continuing the human race.  Through this fact alone we know that God intended that a child have both a mother and a father.

Sadly, children are conceived and are born into a world where their life was not planned by two loving married parents; but just through the copulation of a male and female.

However, this does not mean they are disposable.  God does not make mistakes.  We do - but God does not.  Each life is an individual creation of God, and He has a particular plan for each life He creates.

Many young women find themselves in a crisis situation when they discover they are pregnant.  Many feel that they truly loved their partner; only to find out that the baby made the difference. Many men are more than willing to pay for an abortion rather than be held responsible for child-support for the next 18 years.

This leaves the expectant mother with all the decisions to be made about her child.  Many get pressure from their own families who convince them that a baby in their young lives could ruin their chances for a good life.  Those kinds of decisions cost the child its life. Just as that mother was once a pre-born baby; so is the child she carries.

When Christian people all across America stood against abortion, one of the comebacks from the abortionist and supporters of abortion would say, “Well, who is going to take care of this baby, you?”

And since that day, there have been pregnancy crisis centers opening all across this nation by people who are willing to be a support system for those mothers who decide to choose life for their child – either by determination to raise the child themselves or to allow a couple to adopt the child into a good  home.

So what is a pregnancy resource center anyway?  They are not magic people.  They cannot make the situation go away; but they can be on hand to assist expectant mothers in making good sound decisions about the life they are carrying.  First of all they offer free pregnancy tests.  No pregnancy, then counseling that will help prevent it from happening in the future.

Pregnant?

They also offer support counseling, classes, friendship and resources to help the mother through her pregnancy and beyond.  The counseling can come in various forms and may vary from center to center.  Many like the one here in Fayette County offer maternity clothing, baby clothes, diapers, cribs and other equipment. All of this is done by the free will offering and volunteer work of people who care about the individual women and not some statistics.

January 22, 2011, is the 38th Anniversary of Roe vs Wade as handed down by the Supreme Count in 1973.  Oddly enough the woman they used in this test before the courts did not actually have an abortion; and today she is staunchly PRO-LIFE.

On January 25, 2011, here in Fayette County, there will be a banquet to raise money to help the continuing services of Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center as well as the completion of their own brand new building.  Everyone is excited about the new facility.

Dr. Alveda King will be the guest speaker.  She is the niece of the Rev. Martin Luther King and is firmly a believer in the Right To Life – for all persons particularly the pre-born.

The Emcee will be Georgia’s Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.  This banquet is set up on a sponsorship type of program.  A sponsor can donate $450.00 for a table that will seat ten people of their choice.  The money goes to provide the facility and the food.  The purpose of the banquet is make the community aware of their existence – which has been here for seventeen years, the need for financial backing to complete the new building and to fund the projects for these mothers; but also to bring together those who will support the facility in other ways – through prayer and volunteerism.

There are many areas where people can volunteer.  It was the pleasure of this author to serve for a while in the very first pregnancy crisis center in Atlanta way back in the 80’s.  I can attest that not only the lives of the pre-born were saved; but the lives of many of these mothers were changed forever.

This is a Christian faith based facility and Christ is honored and shared to all who come through the doors.  No judgment – no censure – no condemnation - no blame - no admonition – and no denunciation – just love, support, understanding and encouragement.   Each year at the end of the year, they give a party for all the mothers who chose life; and they all get together and adore the babies whose lives were spared.

Not only is the Fayette Resource Center building a great new facility, they are also raising funds to provide free ultra-sound for expectant mothers so that they can see for themselves that life begins at conception and that in fact it is a baby that they are carrying.
