Downtown tampa attracts hotel developers

Mayor Bob Buckhorn announce developers propose to build at least 4 hotels in Downtown Tampa.

The mayor released his statement Jan.6, 2013.

"Although 2012 was a great year for Tampa, 2013 has already started off strong. Developers are interested in building four new hotels in our downtown, we're getting closer to completing the Riverwalk, and confidence in our capacity to be great is at an all-time high. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year has in store."

In 2006, Tampa was one of the hardest hit markets in housing and real estate. The hotel and hospitality industry faired much better than the housing industry, though there was apprehensions in the hotel business as well. The resilience of the Tampa Bay area hospitality industry inspired and attracted investors and developers with a prospective interest. Le Meridien and Aloft hotels propose plans to build this year in Downtown Tampa.

These hotels have connections to Starwood Hotels &Resorts Worldwide and the Development Services Group has proposed development and building of these sites. Trammell Crow Co. Is showing interest in constructing the third site and O,R, and L Facility Services has request proposal for the fourth project.
