If you live in San Diego, anywhere close to downtown, and if you have a few bucks left in your pocket after rent, and utilities are done, then you must already know about The Commons Bar. Located at 901 4th Avenue and one plus year of ongoing service, The Commons Bar will get you that laid back feeling of your home away from home feeling that we all long for.
When food is your game and you don’t know about The Commons Bar, there is none better when it comes to great bar food! Here they offer wings which stand up to the best from across the entire country. More, they offer a loaded menu full of enough goodness to carry you through a hefty lunch or filling dinner and if you’re just looking for a small bite to eat they’ve got you covered on that play too.
Craft beers rock the house and cocktails are always on the shelf for your enjoyment. They offer board games, card games, TVs for all to see the team of your choosing in other words this is a sports bar for you to loose your dark thoughts in and enjoy the night.
This place has the potential to stick around for years and years. The location of Horton Plaza makes for obvious advantages and the new civic park will add pleasant diversions from daily grinds.
The food is good, very good. I had a Danger Zone Burger featuring plenty of diced jalapenos, cayenne pepper and crushed red peppers. The Angus patty tasted great and mine came covered with pepper jack cheese and onion rings. Nancy and I could have split this one but my lovely chose a plate with a little less heat. Nancy went with the Fish & Chips. This dish was the usual cod, beer battered with homemade fries plus they offered chips and salsa on the side.
When you look at the menu you’ll notice they are serious about good eats. You may notice it ain’t free, but with all things heading north on the Obama train to cheaper health costs, this menu is about the new normal pricing for 2014 and with good tastes factored in, this place is definitely doable for me and mine.
Can’t wait till pay day so I can go back.
