Downtown LA Fashion Week Report #3 - Louver by Louis Verdad

Louver by Louis Verdad, cruise chic

This was my first season catching the Louis Verdad show since I have moved back from New York and I am so beyond exstatic to see a runway show that is worthy of a New York runway but here to stay in Los Angeles. This just goes to show that Los Angeles has some heavy fashion players and they are sticking to their LA roots. Louver by Louis Verdad was a beautiful collection with inspiration in mind. As mentioned by Louis himself, the color black was a big inspiration to him last season and he has now switched gears to ivory, something more pure. Inspiration? Purity? Black? Ivory? All pieces to the puzzle as Louis Verdad opens his show with a picture review of the most influential, inspiring black women of our modern day. Michelle Obama, Oprah, Maya Angelou, Ruby Dee, and even Whitney Houston.

The lights raise and the show starts. With look after look, model after model there was something magical going on. All African-American models all draped, zipped and buttoned into ivory and metalic fashion concoctions, with flashs of navy and dripping in gold chains.  There was clear influences of the 1940s, the 1970s and the 1980s.  This collection was well rounded as well as stunningly beautiful.   One look after another caught everyones eye and even caused simultaneous applause.    The big idea's here were shifts, sleek and sexy, exaggerated shoulders (the 80s influence),  and the luxury of gold.   My favorite part about the whole show was in every single look.  Gold hair jewelry on each model. Each hair do was wrapped or draped with gold chains of all sizes and of various cuts and drapings.   I'll take one of each please?  ...And the piece de resistance?  A gorgeous solid navy gown (one of two solid navy looks in the whole collection).  One shouldered, slim to the body, high slight, waist emphasis and just read I am a strong woman all over it.

Inspirational for sure.  We woman are strong, powerful, and sexy creatures and Louis Verdad has all of us in mind while designing creations for the modern day sexy, sophisticated and always inspiring woman.  From your Editor-in-Chic... I'll see you on the Runway!

The navy gown that model Karen Manco is wearing is absolutely stunning. It definitely needs a red carpet moment.
