Downtown gallery does it again, bringing major pop art photographer to Detroit

The Long-Sharp Curis gallery downtown has done it again: this time, they have brought William John Kennedy, iconic photographer and friend of Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana, to downtown Detroit. Prior to being asked to exhibit his work there, Kennedy had never heard of the Long-Sharp Curis gallery in downtown Detroit. "Rhonda Long-Sharp invited me," Kennedy recalled.

Rhonda Long-Sharp, an art dealer, "has a good relationship with William John Kennedy," explained Anthony Curis. Now the Long-Sharp Curis gallery is showing several photographs by Kennedy showing Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana posing with some of the pieces for which they are most famous today. But before fame came, Kennedy was a good friend of Indiana's. It was through Indiana that Kennedy met Andy Warhol in the 1960s.

DiMarco Ansari brought his brother Robert to the show to get advice from Kennedy, who generously gave him some tips and told him stories from his early days in the art world. The gallery was packed, and it the Ansari brothers had to lean in close to hear Kennedy's advice.
