Filming for Season Four of Downton Abbey began yesterday and it's now official Matthew Crawley is dead, but two new possible suitors for Lady Mary Crawley are already on the scene, according to Digital Spy UK.
Lady Mary, played by Michelle Dockery, is wearing funeral black in the first episode of Season Four while two new aristocrats are already on the set as possible successors for Lady Mary's charms in the hit series which has amassed billions of followers around the globe.
Actor Julien Ovenden is listed as a "young aristocrat" in the new cast. Will he win the competition for her affections or will the other "young aristocrat" prevail?
The second likely competitor for Lady Mary's attention is played by actor Tom Cullen who is slated to play Lord Gillingham who is an old family friend of the Granthams.
Maid O'Brien, played by Siobhan Finnergan, is taking a break at the start of Season Four, but she could return. Sources from Downton Abbey say she will not be killed off like Matthew Crawley was so she has the option of returning at a later time in the series of she and director Julian Fellowes can negotiate a new contract. The scheming O'Brien will be missed as one of the show's chief villains.
The show was originally scheduled for only three years, but it's immense popularity has catapulted it to such a level of success that Season Four will not only be seen in Britain and the U.S., but also in China as well. Dan Stevens, who played romantic lead Matthew Crawley chose not to renew his option at the end of the third season.
Stevens played on Broadway with Jessica Chastain and is now filming a movie about Wilileaks founder Julian Assange.
