That mischievous great niece of Violet’s will be coming back to “Downton Abbey” to give the Crawley family some lessons in changing with the times. Lily James, the actress who plays the character of Rose, is now confirmed by TV Line on Feb. 20 to be returning as a season four regular.
At the end of season three, Rose was excited to get the approval from her family to stay at Downton for a time. Of course, this was right before the tragic death of Matthew. It is a shame because Matthew had a way of dealing with Rose’s wild ways.
Lily James may prove to be a way to try to fill Lady Sybil’s shoes in the Crawley household. Jessica Brown Findlay chose to leave the PBS series, which left her character’s husband and baby girl alone. It also left a void of hearing a younger voice in the house ringing about women’s rights and the changing times as Sybil did.
“We’re entering a more modern age, the post-war into the 1920s and all things that came from that, a slightly freer world and women having more freedom,” executive producer Gareth Neame said. Even though she is quite the spitfire, maybe Rose will also get some lessons from the Crawley’s in being more lady-like and not going after married men.
Do you think Lily James will be a good addition to season four of “Downton Abbey?”
