Fans of the PBS hit "Downton Abbey" will be delighted to know that production began today on the hotly anticipated fourth season in the quaint English village of Bampton in Oxfordshire. Led by Dame Maggie Smith the characters appeared gloomy and upset at what appeared to be a memorial service for the deceased Matthew Crawley.

The new series moves six months on from the untimely death of Crawley, played by Dan Stevens, following the birth of his son and heir, from a motor accident.

Avid fans still have a long 10-month wait until the next season begins airing in the U.S.
