Downton Abbey actor receives death threats

Tonight's episode of Downton Abbey was so powerful that actor Hugh Bonneville received death threats as a result of it.

Fans are so addicted to hit series Downton Abbey that some sent death threats to Bonneville who plays the role of Lord Grantham when he makes a life or death decision on the show.

And what is the cause for the uproar?

In tonight's episode Lord Grantham was placed in the impossible situation of having to choose between the advice of two doctors whose opinions were radically different. The tension mounts as his youngest daughter is on the verge of having a baby. One doctor advises that she is all right and he can deliver the baby safely inside Downton Abbey. The other doctor warns that Lady Sybil may die if she is not rushed to the nearest hospital where the child should be delivered by Caesarean section.

Unfortunately for Lady Sybil, Lord Grantham sides with the doctor who was mistaken. While her baby is successfully born, Lady Sybil dies later that same night.

When asked about his response to the threats, Bonneville said he was flattered that fans were taking the show so seriously.

"People on twitter were devastated! It shows how people are invested in the world of Downton Abbey," he said after hearing of the threats.

He further said, "It's a compliment they care so much."

Bonneville said he hopes to continue acting in the series until writer Julian Fellowes decides to end the drama which is a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. It is soon to be aired in China.
