Here's a great resource to help you keep track of when you planted seedlings, monthly garden to-do lists, what worked this year and more.
Arbico Organics offers this 25-page printable garden journal for free on its web site. You don't need to sign up for anything, give your email address or anything else. Just click on the red link to download the journal as a PDF file.
The journal is labeled "FREE 2012 Garden Journal" but there is absolutely nothing year-specific about the journal other than a reference to 2012 on the title page, so it can be used for any year. You may want to use your own title page to eliminate the 2012 reference and personalize the journal.
Contents include:
- Title page
- Spring garden plot plan (a grid to map out your garden, with a note section)
- Fall garden plot plan (a grid to map out your garden, with a note section)
- Preparation plans (information about preparing the ground for the first time, space for recording amendments to the soil and a possible shopping list)
- Early indoor seed planting records (spaces to note information such as what seeds were planted, what variety, when started, date germinated, when moved outdoors, and more)
- Transplants and direct-planting records (spaces to note information such as plant type, where purchased, variety, date of first harvest, harvested until, and more)
- Fertilizer application record
- Climate data worth noting
- Pest & disease problems (spaces to note problems, what was done, whether it worked, etc.)
- Summary ("What was fantastic? Or not...)
- For next year (Do's and Don'ts)
- One page of for each month to fill in your garden to-do list for that month
This is a wonderful resource that can be customized to fit your needs. Some gardeners may want to print out more than the two pages of seedling forms, for instance.
Happy gardening!
