On Thursday, January 26th, Dow Jones hosted an Expert Series event called Correlation Nation at the NASDAQ building in Times Square. The event featured a keynote presentation by Barry Ritholtz, CEO and Director of Equity Research at Fusion IQ and creator of The Big Picture, a financial weblog that covers investing, trading, and related topics. He provided an interesting perspective on where the economy presently lies, stating that it’s in a post credit crisis era. He also mentioned that stocks, bonds, commodities and equities are the 4 main assets right now. The economy is uneven and so there won’t be a broad recovery.
In addition, a panel discussion took place at the event, which featured a number of well-known professionals in the financial arena: Vincent Cignarella, a currency strategist/columnist for DJ FX Trader, Joshua Brown, a financial advisor at Fusion Analytics, and Robert Passarella, Vice President, Institutional Markets at Dow Jones. Kelly Evans, a columnist for The Wall Street Journal moderated the discussion, asking the panelists thought-provoking questions on the economic crisis. They all agreed that something had to change soon as people are trading foreign exchange more and more and stocks need to be reinvigorated. The event truly proved to be insightful, giving an interesting perspective on the economy, which hopefully will open the door to potential future solutions.
