CEO of Dow Jones & Company Les Hinton will discuss his illustrious career as a journalist and media executive and share how he became one of the most powerful leaders in world media. During his career at News Corporation, spanning 48 years and three continents, Hinton has held several top executive roles. He has held the top post at Dow Jones & Company, publishers of the Wall Street Journal, since 2007.
Hinton was appointed by News Corps CEO Rupert Murdoch to lead Dow Jones & Company after its acquisition by News Corps in 2007. Before that, he served as CEO of the News Corp subsidiary News International Limited, Britain’s largest publisher of national newspapers, including The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, The News of the World, The Times Literary Supplement and thelondonpaper, the metropolitan London free newspaper, since 1995. He has also served as the head of Fox Television Stations; News America Publishing, responsible for overseeing News Corps’ U.S. publishing operations; and Murdoch Magazines. Before that, he was based in New York as a foreign correspondent for News Corps newspapers in Britain and Australia. He started his career at News Corps in 1959 at the Adelaide Times, then run by a 28-year-old Murdoch as his first and only daily paper.
In September 2009, Hinton testified before the British parliament regarding the News of the World phone hacking scandal, in which a reporter for the tabloid was convicted of illegally intercepting phone messages of numerous high-profile celebrities and members of the royal household.
Born in England, Hinton became a U.S. citizen in 1986.
Hope to see you there!
