Dow Jones breaks 14,000 Friday: 155 points away from breaking all-time high

The Dow Jones industrial average closed above 14,000 for the first time since Oct. 12, 2007. According to USA Today on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, the Dow closed at 14,009.79.

The Dow is just 155 points away from breaking its all time high, which was seen in Oct. of 2007. The 117 year-old blue chip index was up 149.21 points today, bringing it over this milestone number of 14,000.

It was Oct. 9, 2007 that Dow hit its all time high of 14,164.53 and by the look of today’s gain, it is not to much of a stretch to expect the Dow to top its record high one day soon. According to USA Today, “The Dow is now up 6.9% in 2013 and has rallied 114% since the bear market low in March 2009.”

With the Dow on an upward swing, it has renewed hope on Wall Street. The gains the stock market has seen in recent weeks has spawned a positive outlook toward the economy. The hope and positive outlook comes with caution, but it’s there just the same.
