Disney Channel star Dove Cameron has just been announced as the first to officially join the cast of the network’s new original movie, “Descendants.” According to Variety on Dec. 15, the young actress has nabbed the role of Mal, the daughter of the evil Maleficent from the classic tale of “Sleeping Beauty.”
This new live-action movie reveals that some of the most ruthless villains in Disney history will have their offspring in a dilemma as to whether they should stay true to their evil roots or bend towards the good side. These teenagers will be sent to a prep school by the son of Belle and the Beast, who is all set to take the throne. He is out to redeem the kids and they will have to choose between good and evil.
Cameron will be the leader of the group after they leave their nest of villains on a remote island and head to the school that is run by the Fairy Godmother, Mulan and Rapunzel. The role of Mal may be quite different for the 17-year-old as she is used to being nice and sweet on the Disney Channel series, “Liv and Maddie.” She plays the role of both twins on the show. The teen will also be seen in another Disney movie coming out next month called “Cloud 9.”
Choreographer Kenny Ortega will be directing "Descendants" which is set to debut in 2015. As you may remember, he became quite well-known for “High School Musical,” which was a huge money-maker for Disney.
