Hugh Douglas is being sued by his ex-girlfriend in civil court because she feels that the criminal court case against him failed. Douglas was arrested last September for assaulting his then girlfriend at a hotel in Connecticut. In that case, Douglas plead no contest to a lesser charge. On April 30, Canada Journal reported on the new lawsuit against the former NFL player.
Hope Davila is the woman filing the lawsuit against Hugh Douglas. The two were a couple at the time of the September incident. She accuses Douglas of assaulting and choking her during the incident. However, Douglas has plead no contest in criminal court to a breach of peace charge. This is a much lesser charge. Gloria Allred has taken on this woman's case, and she laid out the woman's lawsuit to the press on Tuesday.
Davila suffered from injuries resulting from the assault for several months, and she is still coping with the emotional trauma of the incident. She was shown in tears during the press conference. Hugh Douglas' attorney could not speak about the new lawsuit on Tuesday because he had not yet received notice of the filing at the time he was questioned.
Hugh Douglas is former NFL player. During his time with the NFL, he played with three teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars. Following his time on the football field, he worked as an analyst for ESPN, but he was fired from that network last August. His firing followed an incident where he had a confrontation with his co-host from the ESPN series "Numbers Never Lie."
What do you think of this lawsuit? Should the ex-girlfriend go the civil route in this matter against Hugh Douglas?
