Double Bridge Run winner sets blistering pace (Photos)

Beautiful race day weather greeted a crowd of 4,000 runners at the sold out Double Bridge Run in Pensacola on February 2, 2013.

The 15K race course started in downtown Pensacola at the new Community Maritime Park, routed runners over the 3-mile bridge, through Gulf Breeze, and over Bob Sikes Bridge into Pensacola Beach.

A shorter 5k course started at Gulf Breeze High School, routed runners over Bob Sikes Bridge, and shared the Pensacola Beach finish line with the 15K race.

The event was well organized and offered ample course support, with only one noticeable snag. Toward the end of the race, a technical problem caused the collapse of the inflatable finish line banner. The sagging banner blocked the course temporarily, complicating the finish for several runners. Fortunately the problem was quickly resolved.

Tyler McCandless, of Colorado, set a blistering sub 5-minute mile pace to win the 15K in 46:12. Emmanuel Bor took second place, with 48:05, and was followed by Richard Kessio in 49:41.

Sonja Friend-Uhl was the fastest female 15K runner, finishing in 54:56, followed by Alexandra Blake in 55:48.

In the 5K, Jamison Ware took first place with an 18:18 finish. Melanie Moffett was the female winner, with a time of 19:32.

A complete list of results is available on the event website.
