“Dota 2” took what may be the first step Jan. 30 in its goal to create an in-game statistics system for players, release notes said. No hero was released in the patch.
The changes come on the heels of Valve insisting players’ statistics should be allowed to be private. Stats-tracking websites, like DotaBuff, tracked player statistics indiscriminately until Valve put the onus on the player to make their stats available to outside sources.
Another indication of a statistics system is the inclusion of changes for Web API, a service which Valve said it will use to help deliver statistics to both players and third-party websites.
Valve also reduced the hero selection time in all random mode to 10 seconds, down from 90 seconds. This is a smart move by Valve to help reduce wait times for players, and nobody needs time to select heroes in all random mode anyway.
Prominent bug fixes include Spectre’s Spectral Dagger trail now following invisible targets, which it didn’t until today’s patch.
