Dos Caras interview

Before they left for New York for Nolcha Fashion Week, I had the opportunity to catch up with the girls from Dos Caras, and ask some questions:

Oceanside Fashion – How did you find out that you were going to be a part of Nolcha Fashion Week?

Dos Caras - We heard about Nolcha through Ana Paula Bastian. She sent us an email regarding the show. FWSD was certainly a stepping stone for us. Prior to FWSD we were just two friends with an idea. To see our vision come to fruition is such a blessing. We are so proud to be from San Diego and have the opportunity to show in New York.

Oceanside Fashion – You must have been so excited. What was your initial reaction?

Dos Caras - Our reaction to being accepted was so thrilling. The first people we called were our moms. I think we still can't believe it. We are pretty much still in a state of shock.

Oceanside Fashion – What do you hope will happen after NYFW?

Dos Caras - We are still a new company. Having launched with FWSD we are still learning the biz. We believe that NYFW will help us gain credibility and exposure. At this point our company focus is to gain brand recognition.

Oceanside Fashion – You will be the only design house showing summer fashion at Nolcha. How will you fit in?

Dos Caras - We are sure we will not tie in nor fit in. We are San Diegans. Not to mention Aida and myself are completely unconventional. Beach wear is all year round for us. We will continue to develop a Fall/ Winter Collection each year as long as we are in business.

Oceanside Fashion - You will be a hit in NYC. What’s next for Dos Caras?

Dos Caras - We hope it is. This journey has been such a blessing for us both, even though it is a frightening! We would love to someday have a large team and lots of cash but for this year we will be showing in our home town during FWSD. San Diego is where our hearts are.

Oceanside Fashion – Will we see you at FWSD in October?

Dos Caras - We are hoping to participate. Our application is in!

Dos Caras’ story is like that of many aspiring designers. It’s not a profession for the faint of heart. It takes hard work, the right attitude, tenacity, and a line that isn’t cookie cutter. Syncletica Maestas and Aida Soria have these traits. In the future, Dos Caras swimwear will not only grace the pages of magazines, but drape the bodies of women the world over.
