Doran and Coughlin lead Maine to victory over Chicago State

Brian Doran had three hits and two runs scored to lead the University of Maine Black Bears baseball team to a 13-7 victory over Chicago State at Punta Gorda, Florida on Sunday afternoon.

Sam Balzano hit a run scoring double with no outs in the bottom of the fifth to give the Black Bears a 2-1 lead.

Maine scored the next 11 runs to take a 13-1 lead going to the bottom of the eighth inning.

Chicago State rallied but fell six runs short.

Doran hit two doubles for the Black Bears. Balzano, Fran Whitten, Jonathan Salcedo, Shane Bussey and Scott Heath finished with two hits each.

Whitten had three RBI. Michael Fransoso and Nick Bernardo had two RBI each.

Shaun Coughlin allowed only two hits, one run and two walks while striking out nine in six innings to pick up the victory on the mound for the Black Bears.

Maine (8-10) will play at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday and Wednesday.
