Rock fans often want to know if there were any connections between their idols. Did Jim Morrison ever meet Janis Joplin? Yes, on a couple of occasions and the connection was Doors producer Paul Rothchild who also produced Joplin’s “Pearl” album thought it was a good idea to introduce them (it wasn’t). Now, there’s another (albeit) tentative connection. Mary Bridget-Davies who has played Janis Joplin on Broadway in “A Night With Janis Joplin” will be appearing at the Pasadena Playhouse in a production July 17-20 titled “Playhouse Rocks!” and one of her special guests will be Robby Krieger.

Krieger has appeared onstage with Davies this past March at SXSW for the release of the Jimi Hendrix postage stamp. Krieger covered Hendrix’s “Red House” along with Slash and Davies handling the vocals.

The “Playhouse Rocks!” show will feature songs by Joplin, Etta James, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, Al Green, and Amy Winehouse. “Playhouse Rocks!” is being curated by MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer (who also appeared at the SXSW celebration of Hendrix), Devo’s Bob Mothersbaugh, and Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction. “Playhouse Rocks!” runs from July 17-20 and tickets are on sale at the Pasadena Playhouse’s website.
