Doomsday Preppers is a new show that will debut on Feb. 7, at nine o'clock, on the National Geograpic Channel. According to the show's description:
"Doomsday Preppers explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it."
The show's website prominently features guns and camo, but food is a vital part of any strategy for survival. Are you setting back a little food for a catastrophic event or even just a winter storm? It is surprising how quickly grocery store shelves can empty during a weather emergency.
At the Bristol Kroger, they set up a display of freezers for sale, with around seven or eight available. These were smaller compact chest freezers which sell for $159.00, which is an unheard of price. Today, only a few days later, the freezer display only holds three or four freezers; they have sold that qickly. Do you suppose people are stockpiling a bit of food for difficult times?
Also at the Kroger there on Midway in Bristol, they have been running little cans of chicken for only a dollar. These are great to keep on hand to use with box dinners like chicken helper or Rice-A-Roni. Canned diced tomatoes have also been featured for a week or so for only 49 cents. These are another staple grocery item that would allow for a meal to be prepared with some other things on hand.
It never hurts to be prepared for a rainy day, or worse!
