Dont Make Excuses, Make "It" Happen

No Excuses
No Excuses

Many people’s lives are filled with excuses. Excuses do nothing but create a
self-made barrier that can be so difficult to get through that it paralyzes the
pursuit of your passion. Statements such as “I can’t follow my dreams
because…”, “I don’t have the education necessary to…”, or “I don’t have proper
training to…” will destroy the motivation to pursue your passion. There are
many obstacles in life to overcome, why create your own?

At some point, we need to eliminate the excuses and just do “it”. What is “it”
you ask? “It” is whatever you dream about, whatever you are passionate about.
Think of all the time we spend coming up with excuses and neglect pursuing our
passions because of those excuses. If we spent the time it takes to make
excuses on being productive in pursuing our passion or at least developing our skills to achieve it, we could be closer to reaching them. So what are you waiting for? Okay, don’t stop reading this article to pursue them, I recommend you keep reading. I am sure you will benefit from the next few paragraphs.

As I mentioned in my article “What happened to your dreams,” it is important to
make a list of your excuses. Making a list of your excuses allows you to come
up with a strategy to eliminate them. One of the primary reasons people make
excuses is due to fear. They have a fear of failure, fear of what people may
say or think of them, and fear of taking risks. The fact is, fear is a part of
life, but the successful people learn to overcome their fears, or at least
harness them and change them into something positive that propels them.

Fear of Failure

No one wants to fail. I have never met anyone who wakes up in the morning and
thinks to themselves, I want to see how I can fail today. Everyone has a desire
to be successful at something. It is okay to be afraid of failure. It is that
fear that will keep you from skipping steps, it will make sure you take care of
every detail, and it will ensure you are adequately prepared. Some of the
greatest athletes in the world have a fear of failure or losing. That fear
drives them to practice and prepare more. Allow your fear of failure to drive
you to action.

Fear of What People May Say

I guarantee 100 percent of you reading this article have been criticized because
of a decision you've made or something you've done. People are going to
criticize you no matter what, so why not get talked about while pursuing your
passions and your dreams. In addition, the more successful you are, chances are
the more critics you will have.

Fear of Taking Risks

The fear of taking risks is many times associated with the fear of failure.
Some people are naturally risk takers, while other are naturally risk averse.
If you are risk averse, take the time to research and calculate the risk, it can
make it easier, especially if the potential rewards outweigh the risk. In order
to have great success a person has to be willing to take some sort of risk or
step out in faith.

Almost all of the successful people in the world had to overcome obstacle(s)
and/or take risks to make it to where they are. As a young man, Walt Disney was
fired from the Kansas City Star newspaper because his boss thought he lacked
creativity. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. As a
young boy, Thomas Edison was pulled out of school by his parents because the
teachers called him stupid and unteachable. During his teenage years, he was
fired from various jobs. Each of these people could have used their setbacks as
excuses, but they didn’t. If they made "it" happen, what’s stopping you?

The only obstacle that can truly keep you from achieving your dreams and/or
passions in life is you. Don’t get in your way.

I want to end my first article of the 2013 with a quote from Mother Teresa:

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it..."
