Donovan, Clark to Serie A?

Well, well, well...Landon Donovan could be heading to Serie A. How ironic.

The LA Galaxy striker - fresh off his kiss-and-make-up feud with David Beckham - is a target of newly-promoted Italian side Livorno, a side that has seesawed between Serie A and Serie B, much like West Bromwich Albion or Wolves in the English Premier League. Donovan's agent, Richard Motzkin, confirmed the news with goal.com.

Also of note is Livorno's interest in Ricardo Clark, who had a strong showing late in the Confederations Cup, espeically in the 2-0 shocker over top-ranked Spain in the semi-finals. Clark is a strong tackler, but has also had disciplinary issues in the past, with his red card against Italy in the Confederations Cup standing out.

Like Oguchi Onyewu's move to AC Milan July 7 - he made his debut yesterday in Atlanta at the World Football Challenge - this can only be a good thing for the United States National Team. We know what Donovan can do - his Confederations Cup was fantastic. He'll be solid in South Africa next year either way. Should the move go through, this will be especially useful to Clark, who will see his place as a starter put under pressure from Jermaine Jones - one of the top midfielders in the Bundesliga last year - who swapped Germany for the Red, White, and Blue.

Serie A could suddenly be a safe haven for Americans going overseas. The league could go from having no Americans in the league to having three in a matter of weeks. That can only be a good thing for the USMNT.
