The idea behind The Expendables was simple, take a bunch of action stars and put them in one big action movie. With the first film being a success, it was inevitable that a second one would be made. How do you go about making the second film bigger than the first? Continue to add on more action stars of course! This time around, to go along with names like Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Terry Crews possible additions may include the likes of Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and maybe even John Travolta. Plus, there will be more of Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger this time around as well. With there already being so many possibilities you can now add one more name to this list Albany, and that name is martial arts star Donnie Yen!
If you aren't familiar with Donnie Yen, you may remember him from films like Blade II and Shanghai Knights a few years back. However, it is more likely that if you are a fan martial arts films that you would know him more from his IP Man films. If not, let's just say that Yen will fit right in with the rest of the cast of The Expendables. While he has yet to accept the as of now unspecified role, if he were to accept, his role is is described as being "tailor made" for Yen. Now that could mean anything of course, but hopefully that turns into a fight partner for Jet Li. Sadly however, it's being said that Jet Li may not be returning and Yen is being eyed as a replacement. Personally, I hope the producers behind this film find a way to get both actors in the film. The thought of fight scenes between the two is ridiculous and if Donnie Yen decides to accept the role, their scenes together would immediately be among the most anticipated in the entire film. The Expendables 2 is scheduled to hit Albany theaters next summer on August 17th, 2012.
