Fans of DKNY in Atlanta, one day before Valentine’s Day itself, designer Donna Karan New York was very conscious of the fact that some sort of homage had to be paid to the Love Fest in her Fall 2012 fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on February 13, 2012 in New York City.
Donna Karan New York’s collection for this Fall 2012 featured quite a few red ensembles including a sultry suit jacket style dress with plunging V-neckline that the model wore with a red handbag and deep red ankle strap pumps.
There was also a one-should red gown with unusual pleated details on the bodice as well as a shiny red trench coat which the model accessorized with a jaunty little red hat – very, very cute!
Even the black skirt ensemble with layered top was accessorized by a red, black and white plaid scarf – that tri-color combination is a classic that works to this day!
For something different, perhaps a little bit toughened up, DKNY celebrates black leather pants, which the designer pairs with black wool jackets and vests, topping plaid shirts (yes in red!) and ties! Then there is that plaid cape with a blanket fringe by Karan...
The animal print retro style coat I’ll call “wild cat” was also stunning but there was something very tailored and classical – even vintage about the designs featured in this collection, and it wasn’t just the little hats, which certainly helped.
Perhaps even a little bit of that foxhunt along with 1940’s retro styling. Looking at this superb collection, I walked away with the words, “well done!”
Also attending the Donna Karan New York Fall 2012 fashion show were Anna Wintour (the burgundy fur lapels were right on-trend!), Victoria’s Secret Angel model Adriana Lima (who donned her own fur stole), and Emmy Rossum.
At the end of the show Donna Karan also acknowledged the audience coming out in her pinstripe cutaway jacket with matching vest as Whitney Houston’s hit “I’m Every Woman” played in the background.
