According to a Nintendo statement, the game has been pushed back to February 2014 "in order to deliver the optimum gaming experience for fans."
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was originally slated for a fall 2013 release prior to the delay. Development is being handled by Retro Studios who previously worked on Donkey Kong Country Returns for both the Wii and Nintendo 3DS.
The delay of Tropical Freeze means that it will miss out on the critical holiday shopping months and is a blow to the struggling Wii U which needs as many games as possible to attract buyers. This leaves only Super Mario 3D World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Wii Party U and Wii Fit U as first party titles for the console for the rest of the year.
The first Wii U installment of the Donkey Kong Country series teams up Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong against invaders who have taken over Donkey Kong Island.
