The holders of the top two Donkey Kong scores ever will be sitting down Sunday to see how high they can get.
Hank Chien and Dean Saglio have planned a friendly meet-up at Richie Knucklez Arcade Games in Flemington, NJ on Sunday, August 14 with both men aiming to break the 1.1 million point mark on the arcade classic.
For Chien, it is a return to the location where he beat out the best Donkey Kong players in the world to with "The Kong-Off" contest earlier this year. Shortly before that, Chien broke his own world record at Funspot in New Hampshire, upping the official arcade world record to 1,090,400 points.
For Saglio, it's a chance to gain some of the Donkey Kong fame usually reserved for Chien, Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell. Holding the Donkey Kong world record on the MAME emulator program, Saglio's record of 1,153,000 points trumps any official score ever set on an original coin-operated machine. A new record score on an original arcade machine would cement Saglio into the throne some classic gaming fans already place him in.
The two champs will not be competing with one another, but are meeting up in a show of friendly competition and support for one another as they aim to set a new all-time high.
A streaming video broadcast will be available online at TwitchTV and at PatrickScottPatterson.com starting late Sunday morning.
