Friday, Jan. 21 be ready to watch as four teams battle for the championship when they compete in a little friendly competition of donkey basketball at the Northwest YMCA. Gates will open at 6:30pm with games beginning at 7pm.
Players will be riding and playing off of a real donkey in the gymnasium trying to make a basket for their team. Donkey basketball has been a popular fund raising activity in small towns since the depression. A few years ago, the Goddard schools held a donkey basketball tournament. The Northwest YMCA gymnastics team picked up on this and presented the idea to Jay Buckmaster, the director of the Northwest YMCA, as a way to raise money for the annual Strong Kids campaign.
Buckmaster decided to “try something new this year to get more people involved in raising money for a good cause in a fun and creative way.”
Tickets are $6 per person and $8 at the door. Ages 5 and under are free. Please contact Chollet Bucl at 316-250-5033 or Bobby Desjardin at 316-648-4533 to reserve your seat and help make this event successful.
The following teams will be competing against each other with the winning teams advancing onto the final championship round.
- Goddard Faculty
- Goddard Athletes
- Maize Athletes
- Try a Tri
Come out and support your favorite team and help raise money for the Strong Kids program.
