Dong Hyun “The Stun Gun” Kim stunned the fans in Macau, China at UFC Fight Night 37. In an exciting fight, Kim used a spinning elbow to knock out John Hathaway, who had never been finished in a professional MMA fight before this match.

In the UFC, Kim has defeated most of his opponents by decision using his grappling and top control. In his UFC debut, Kim finished Jason Tan by TKO, but his next seven wins have come by decision.

However, on October 9, 2013, Kim seemed to have reinvented his style of fighting. At UFC Fight Night 29 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Kim used constant pressure and stalked Erick Silva throughout the fight before knocking him out. As Silva threw a straight punch, Kim threw one and slipped his head to duck Silva’s fist. Silva went crashing to the ground and lost consciousness. Kim followed with a big hammer fist before the referee could stop the fight.

In his fight with Hathaway, Kim employed the same strategy as the one he used in his fight against Silva and used constant pressure to back up his opponent. In the first round, Kim hurt Hathaway with punches, but Hathaway managed to survive. In the second round, Kim continued to move forward aggressively and finished the round with double hammer fists on Hathaway, whose back was on the ground. In the third round, Hathaway attempted an elbow strike, but Kim knocked out Hathaway with a spinning elbow. Seeing that his opponent was already unconscious, Kim did not follow with any unnecessary strikes.

After the fight, Kim said, “I’m going to continue going forward. I don’t care who my next opponent will be. I want to get a shot at the title.”

With two exciting knockouts and a new style of fighting, Kim is moving up the ranks in the UFC welterweight division.
