Donations to charity make great gifts for the motorcyclist

It is often difficult to find the perfect gift for a motorcyclist. Chances are the biker purchases the needed stuff (oil, tires, tool kits, etc.) on an as needed basis. The fun items like chrome accessories or luggage is either out of the budget or has also been previously purchased by recipient. Thinking of buying clothes? It would be wise to reconsider this as clothing sizes will vary with manufacturers and types of apparel.

For a great Christmas gift, plan on playing it safe this year and make a donation to the biker’s favorite charity or cause.

Because bikers have always been involved in a variety of charitable rides and fundraisers, it is just a matter of zeroing in on what is important to the biker while at the same time finding a charity that meshes with one’s own beliefs.

Since many motorcyclists are veterans, veteran organizations such as a local Veteran’s Hospital, the Marine Corp League, or the National Guard offer opportunities to donate.

If wanting to keep the donation strictly motorcycle related, consider a gift of membership or a donation to the American Motorcycle Association or local ABATE chapter. These groups advocate on behalf of all motorcyclists.

During the waning months each year, thousands of bikers will take part in toy runs to make sure all children have a present at Christmas. These events are sponsored by the Marines and their charity is called Toys for Tots.

Another favorite charity for bikers that involve children is Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA). This organization exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children by empowering the little ones to not feel afraid of the world in which they live.

There are also many religious organizations that combine the love of motorcycling with the love of God. Some of those groups include Christian Motorcyclists Association, Fellowship Riders, and Road Riders for Jesus; all would be happy to take a donation to help them spread the word.

Keep in mind that not all donations will be tax deductible; check with an accountant if planning to itemize and deduct a gift donation.
