The events of the past few days have rocked our nation to the core. Social media, news media and blogs have all blown up with analysis and coverage of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. On Friday, a 20-year-old lone gunman stormed the school and shot 26 people, including 20 children ages 6 and 7. He also killed his mother and himself.

One of those killed was Catherine Hubbard, age 6. In her obituary, her love of animals is described. Catherine's family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Newtown Animal Center, PO Box 475, Newtown, CT 06470.

But don't stop there. Keep giving, all in the name of Catherine. Donate money to a local rescue, like German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County. Donate your time this season to the OC Animal Care. Make a difference in the lives of animals in your neck of the woods all in the name of Catherine Hubbard.

That is one way we, all the way across the country, can help make sure this little girl's legacy lives on.
