Donations Still Needed for Summit County Children Services' Annual 'School Supplies Program'

AKRON, OH – July 2010 – When summer ends, school begins … and Summit County Children Services wants to ensure that every child in its care will begin school this fall prepared with the important, brand new school supplies that will help them be successful in the coming year.

Each summer, more than 1,000 children in the care of Summit County Children Services are given backpacks filled with school supplies – all donated. However, because of limitations on the agency’s use of funds for this type of purchase, the agency depends on the generosity of the community’s organizations and individual donors in order to provide school supplies to the children we serve.

A donation of $25 will purchase a backpack and school supplies for the youngest children. A donation of $35 will provide essentials for a middle school or high school student – including a scientific calculator. Monetary donations can now be made online through PayPal at www.summitkids.org (click on Donor/Volunteer Opportunities and use the “Donate Now” button). Individuals can also mail a donation to the agency, 264 S. Arlington St., Akron, 44306 -- in care of the Community Relations Department (please specify ‘School Supplies’ on the envelope).

For those who prefer to shop for school supplies and then donate the items, a list of the essential supplies needed is also available on the agency’s website by clicking on Donor/Volunteer Opportunities. Please note: It is requested that all donations be delivered to the agency between Monday, July 26 and Friday, August 6 so that volunteers can pack them into backpacks on Saturday, August 7.

For more information please contact Patricia Roy in the Summit County Children Services Community Relations Department at (330) 379-2055.
