Donations sought to give puppy to Newtown family

As the residents of Newtown struggle with day to day life and attempt to find a new normal, there is a heightened sense of community. No one there was left untouched. Everyone in town has some connection to the tragic events that took place a few short weeks ago along with a story to tell.

While much of the focus remains on the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the survivors are taking comfort in little things. Especially one child who was somehow still alive although her teacher and classmates were not.

This child has taken solace in the therapy dogs made available to the survivors. With a beloved dog already at home, her connection to canines is strong. The family, which includes a second child who was also in attendance at the school that fateful day, had been making plans to add another dog to the fold even before Newtown became a place indelibly marked on the world's map.

There are people who have an absolute loyalty to a particular breed, and Labrador Retrievers are this family's passion. They wanted a Yellow Lab puppy as their newest companion, playmate and family member.

A well respected person in the rescue community who is both friend and neighbor to the family took on their mission to find and secure a young puppy for them. He will be ready in a few weeks. The parents are overjoyed and are making the arrival of the little guy a surprise to the children. What the parents themselves do not know is that their rescuer friend would like to be able to make a gift of the precious little one, along with the cost for some of the initial vetting. That will require some help.

If you would like to contribute to bringing joy to a family who could certainly use some, please send an email or call (203) 270-8979 for further details.
