Spontaneous garage sales sprouting up through-out Houston are the brain-child of children trying to raise money for the people of Haiti. Concerts have been held and cell phone users everywhere are being encouraged to text "HAITI" to 90999 making a $10 donation to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.

Relief efforts are far from over and donations can still be made without denting your budget. Many rewards programs are allowing members to convert points to cash donations for the effort:

Continental and Delta Airlines will allow you to donate any amount of miles to the Red Cross or other charity groups.

Best Western Rewards  will convert 5000 points into a $20 donation

Mariott Rewards  will convert 18000 points into $50 and 180000 points into a $1000 donation.

In exchange for your cash donation of $50, American Airlines will reward you with 250 miles.

How has the Haiti relief efforts effected your family?
