As the Holiday season approaches, there are many ways to share your kindness with others. Giving a Christmas tree to a United States military family is a wonderful way to show your appreciation of the sacrifice these men and women make to serve our country. The Trees for Troops program, mentioned first in favorite Rochester website, Kids Out and About, is a nationwide organization that makes this dream a reality!
In 2005, Trees for Troops organized with the National Christmas Tree Association to provide opportunities for individuals to donate Christmas trees to military families serving in a community near you or abroad. In 2009, over 16,000 trees were delivered. An information video ">here will explain the Trees for Troops program.
Locally, over ten Christmas tree farms participate as collection and shipping points with partner FedEx. A premium sponsor, Stokoe Farms in Scottsville, NY, has been gearing up for their pick up coming the first week of December. It is not too late to donate a tree! You can visit Stokoe’s website here if you are local, or Trees for Troops here if you would like to donate a tree.
Stokoe’s shipment will be on a FedEx truck headed to Fort Drum, New York. Suzanne at Stokoe mentioned that over ten local Legion’s and Women’s Auxiliary organizations have also contributed greatly so that more trees can go to Fort Drum, as well as toward the local deliveries that they will make to families here, whose loved ones are overseas.
Thank you to wonderful businesses, such as Stokoe Farms who go the extra mile to serve as collection points and coordinate this gift of caring to our soldiers! If you would like to get involved, please contact Stokoe here!
How do you thank the military around the holidays? I would love to hear your comments below!
