Donald Trump suing Bill Maher over birth cerificate

Donald Trump announced Monday he fully intends to follow through with his threat to sue comedian Bill Maher for $5 million for charity after the liberal comic failed to follow through on a very public bet he made in January.

On Monday Trump said "He (Maher) promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information." He made the announcement while guesting Monday on Fox News' “Fox & Friends."

As Trump said in all seriousness, "Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity."

Bill Maher who hosts HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" told Jay Leno on his “Tonight Show” last January during an appearance that he was disappointed that Trump never released his own birth certificate while he continuously hounded President Barack Obama's parentage.

Maher said he'd pay the real estate mogul $5 million to prove that he is not, as Maher put it, “the spawn of a monkey.”

Trump had his attorney, Scott S. Balber, release a letter following the Maher comments attaching a copy of Trump’s birth certificate as proof, according to Politico.

Part of the letter said, "Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan," Balber wrote in the letter.

Trump plans to collect the $5 million from Maher and send it to Hurricane Sandy victims, the Police Athletic League, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

No word as of yet from Maher or his attorney.

Stay tuned.
