Donald Sterling racist: Leaked audio of Sterling is shocking

Donald Sterling, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers gets blown wide open in an audio recording between the billionaire and his much younger girlfriend. The record is just over nine minutes long and full of shocking racist language from Sterling, Huffington Post reported on Saturday.

In the recording, David Sterling tells his Black and Mexican girlfriend V. Stiviano not to take pictures with Black people. Apparently it is okay for him to have a young biracial girlfriend and to make boat loads of money from a basketball team full of Black men but it's not okay to be seen with them. That's the gist of the argument between Sterling and girlfriend V. Stiviano that has many Clippers fans just shocked.

Now Donald Sterling's racism is not new news. To hear the actual words coming out of his mouth in the recording is stunning but he's been in hot water before. In 2009 he lost a housing discrimination lawsuit and had to pay out $2.7 million. The suit claimed and proved that he was refusing to rent apartments to Blacks and Hispanics.

In 2011 he was sued by Los Angeles Clippers player Elgin Baylor. While Baylor probably did have a case, he was not successful in proving it. The case was thrown out.

Despite a history of racist remarks, the leaked audio is definitely the most shocking of Sterling's antics. Here are some of the most appalling things Donald Sterling said to Stiviano:

It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to? (3:30)

You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games. (5:15)

I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.(7:45)

Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games. (9:13)

Now in all honesty, the recording looks like a setup. Did Stiviano put this out there to shame Sterling? It doesn't even matter if she set up him because she knew he'd say it or if it just happened naturally. The bottom line is that Donald Sterling said some very horrifyingly racist things. There is no way to defend the awful things that he said and it is hard to further support anything that would benefit him financially.

Now what do Clippers fans do? What do Clippers players do? In a team made up almost entirely of Black men, who would want to play for a racist owner? There is no rule that says NBA team owners can't be racist. He can own that team forever. This newest scandal definitely isn't going to make the Los Angeles Clippers a place where top free agents will want to play.

SB Nation calls Donald Sterling the worst owner of a professional sports team. Given this most recent racism scandal, do you think it's time for the NBA to step in and do something? Leave your comments below.
