In his second fight since losing a super bantamweight unification bout with Guillermo Rigondeaux, Filipino American boxer Nonito Donaire will fight for a fourth world title in as many weight classes when he faces Simpiwe Vetyeka of South Africa on May 31 in Macau.
This promotion will be Top Rank's, Donaire's promoter, fifth trip to Macau since April of last year, the first, however, without Chinese boxing hero Zou Shiming as a featured attraction. Without Shiming, Top Rank is banking on the Philippines proximity to Macau, and Donaire's popularity as an Asian fighter to make the card a success.
In preparation for the fight, Donaire will be training in the Philippines with his father Nonito Donaire, Sr.
Donaire's opponent, Vetyeka (26-2, 16 KOs), is coming off the biggest win of his career, a sixth round knockout of long time featherweight king, Chris John. Before losing to Vetyeka, John was undefeated and held the WBA featherweight title for slightly over 10 years.
