Many people think their dog should look and act a certain way. That being said, dogs are bred to possess those desired physical and characteristic traits over many generations. In order to produce puppies with those traits many breeders have to inbreed or linebreed the dogs that they have. Those breeding programs are acceptable over a couple of generations or breeding cycles, but many years of inbreeding and linebreeding can be harmful in the long run. It causes genetic weaknesses and harmful traits to be expressed.
When a dogs’ immune system is genetically weak, it makes them more susceptible to diseases and chronic health problems such as kidney disease and arthritis. Also, many dogs are becoming sick at younger ages than ever before. Breeding practices and a poor diet are to blame for that. Some commercial brands of dog food do not use wholesome ingredients and include harsh chemicals and preservatives to give the food a longer shelf life. One of the best ways to boost a dogs' immune system is to eliminate harsh chemicals from their diet and give them fresh and wholesome food. Chemicals bombard the immune system and cause it to weaken over time, even more so if inbreeding is present in their pedigree.
