The first stop on the tour of 'Life is a Carnival' with Johnny Harper covering the music of The Band, in honor of The Band, happened at Avonova last Saturday, May 3rd. If you didn't make it out there, you missed a rockin' good time! Johnny and his band, Carnival (also in honor of The Band) covered 18 of The Band's songs, including 'Life is a Carnival', 'W.S. Walcott Medicine Show', 'Stage Fright', and 'Up on Cripple Creek', to name a few of the tunes you've hummed or sung along with on the radio. Folks were in the aisles dancing, and everyone had a big smile on their face, nodding and clapping to the music.

If you couldn't arrange to get to Avonova in Oakland, but you would love to hear that good ol' The Band music, fear not. Another venue in San Francisco is coming up on Saturday, May 10th at St. Cyprian's Church, 2097 Turk St. (at Lyon), (415) 424 5238. Show starts at 8:00 PM, $15.00 in advance, $18.00 at the door. For advance tickets to http://www.brownpapertickets.com.

In addition to Johnny's core band of drums, bass, keyboards, piano & his lead guitar, for these concerts honoring The Band, he's added horns (trumpet, sax, clarinet), and a violin. All of the participants are professional musicians with tons of experience and accolades. You won't be disappointed and will leave the venue feeling uplifted.

Don't miss this upcoming venue in tribute to The Band commemorating their legendary debut at San Francisco's Winterland 45 years ago in 1969.
