If you haven’t heard, Jeremy Messersmith is coming to the First Avenue Mainroon this weekend, and fans wasted no time buying tickets, because his Saturday gig is sold out. Luckily for the fans that were slower to the draw, he will be performing on Friday, February 21st as well! The 18+ show starts at 8pm both nights this weekend, and the fabulous Rogue Valley will be accompanying them.
Jeremy’s latest album, Heart Murmurs, was released earlier this month, and guests of the shows this weekend are in for an awesome album release party. The effort put into the album is apparent, and each song feels almost poetic and story-like. His first single off the record is Ghost, which was previously released by NPR in late January. The soft vocals and subtle instrumentals draw you in, and his lyrics get you thinking. Clearly written from the heart, it exudes emotion.
Another sure-to-be fan favorite from the album is I Want To Be Your One Night Stand. A bit tongue-in-cheek, this tune is, for lack of a better word, funny. With lyrics like, “We’ll check into a dive motel / Carpets worn and the curtains smell” and “Oh, we’ll get drunk on a box of wine,” it’s hard not to be amused.
By the way, don’t forget about Rogue Valley, who will be opening for Jeremy. This Minneapolis-based folk band is going to be an amazing addition to the shows. An instrumental version of their song The Wolves and The Ravens is featured toward the end of the Ben Stiller film “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” Thanks to that, the band has gotten more attention lately. Well-deserved!
Don’t miss out on a great show this weekend – tickets for the Friday night show are still available, but act fast before they sell out. Check out first-avenue.com for more info.
