If you are looking for something fun and creative for your kids to do this summer, don’t miss the amazing art classes happening every Thursday (from 5:00 – 6:30pm) at Practical Art. In association with the Bergamot Institute, the youth art classes will run through the end of August, providing the valley’s youth with fun and instructional art activities.
Kids ages 7 – 12 are invited to participate in an hour and a half of learning and engaging in hands-on arts activities. Classes will cover a variety of different artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, and sculpture making using upcycled materials. Classes are $15 per session, and limited to 10 students per class to provide the best learning experience. Please call 602.264.1414 or visit the website to purchase classes.
Practical Art is the only gallery in downtown Phoenix that features “functional art,” handmade by local artisans. Practical Art is a teaching gallery, a community hangout, and the home to usable handcrafted artwork from over 100 local artisans. The gallery also hosts an emerging local visual artist for a month long solo exhibition on the gallery walls; making your trip to Practical Art a truly unique shopping and art appreciation experience.
Founded by two Arizona artists, the Bergamot Institute is a non-profit organization whose aim is to provide work spaces and supplies to those in our community who might not otherwise have access to them. Through partnering with various local spaces, the Bergamot Institute inspires community and creativity through workshops, events, shows, and collaborative projects.
Make sure to check back in to the Practical Art website often, as they will also be hosting youth Pop-Up Workshops lead by guest artists and instructors throughout the summer.
