Don't forget to turn your clocks, and head outside to aid your weight loss goals

That's right! It's is 6:30 pm, and there is STILL light outside! It's almost time for day light savings time! The time of year that begins to melt away our winter weight, brings us out of our hibernating habits, and into spring weather! March 9, 2013 is this years date to spring those clocks forward, be sure to mark your calendars. If you have been like a grizzly bear all winter; feeling sleepy, lazy, grumpy, and growing that extra layer of winter fat, it is time to take advantage of this spring renewal time. Snap out of it, get out of this winter rut, and get outside! Now the days will be "longer," start with a walk outside! Nothing is better than fresh air and songs of the spring birds encouraging you along.

What are you going to do to get started? How about just a walk. Walking is accessible to everyone, all you has to do is take the step outside your door. Going for a walk helps to get the blood flowing, and transports oxygen throughout your body including your brain.
The added benefits walking can do more than help trim your waistline and burn fat, walking like many other forms of exercise can:

  • lower cholesterol
  • lower blood pressure
  • aid in weight loss
  • improve mood
  • improve cardiovascular fitness
  • reduce risk of type 2 diabetes

Walking is low impact, therefore your joints will be protected. And almost anyone can do it! For beginners, all you have to do is find a level place to walk with little to no incline, and start at a slow pace to get things moving. When feeling up to it try and pick up the pace! Ideally, being able to walk 3-4 miles within 60 minutes is a great goal to shoot for.

The hardest part of achieving a goal is getting started! Now the weather is about to turn for the best, and it will be lighter longer with each day that passes, so take advantage and hit the ground running... or walking!
