Don’t Diet, Eat Real Food

One of the most tried and true ways to lose weight is not only by changing what you eat but also how you eat it. With all the choices we have it can be a bit overwhelming and naturally we tend to gravitate toward what is convenient. There are times when it may seem impossible to eat real food because we may be on the go; however, there are ways to get around that.

Cooking your own meals is the first and best way to lose weight because many of the meals you can make at home will have fewer calories than those that you eat out. When you cook at home you know exactly what is going into your recipe. You can make something with lower fat ingredients and still make it taste good. One other perk to making your own meals is that it is much cheaper to feed yourself and your family than it is to eat out somewhere. Most fast food or sit down restaurants you can’t get a meal for less than $10 per person. Thus if you are out with a family of four you are spending at least $40 if not more. Compare that to a dinner at home consisting of roast chicken, rice, vegetables and some bread or dinner rolls, that kind of meal will cost a family of four approximately $14 in total, which amounts to approximately $3.50 per person. You may even have leftovers which would lower that cost.

So you don’t think you have time? Choose one or two days a week that you can make time to cook and plan to spend that day in the kitchen. You can easily make enough meals and prepare them for your week ahead. That is the secret to eating better on a daily basis when time may be more limited due to your work and/or busy family schedules.
