You're out for drinks with friends, mingling and catching up on each others' lives. Your guy friend is telling you about an awful date and seeking your advice, and when noticing your glass is empty, offers to get your next Blue Moon. Chivalry is not dead, you think, and eagerly anticipate that cold, crisp beer when...
"Hey guys! Long time! How've you been? How's life? Things are soooooo good for me, work is great, life is great, ohhh, are you getting a drink?" squeals a voice behind you. You take a deep breath, plaster a smile on your face, and reply with a "Hey sweetie!" Your greeting is lost in her endless stream of chatter about how she would LOVE a cranberry-vodka, oh isn't he so sweet, true gentlemen are still around...
The drinks arrive. She picks up her pink cocktail and jets off with a "oooh, I haven't talked to her in forever. Later guys!" You and your friend look at each other, dumbfounded, wondering what just happened.
You just came face to face with "girl who doesn't pay for drinks." Is she a mooch? Is she broke? Does she think having two X chromosomes entitles her to free beverages? Regardless, this isn't college anymore and life is not a frat party. Being a girl doesn't entitle you to anything, let alone free drinks.
I really hate this girl. Yes, I'll accept a drink from a friend (which I will promptly repay by getting the next round or ordering some food) or a cute guy (because, well, I'm only human), but I am fully prepared to fork over the credit card for my beer or vodka soda. One of the basic rules of adulthood is have money, will go out. If you're broke, you should be worrying about things not related to where your next glass of chardonnay is coming from.
Don't be that girl. Guys are annoyed by it. Girls get pissed because you're giving them a bad name. And eventually you will run through the goodwill of your friends and be forced to find some new ones.
