Don't be a Scrooge! Tips on Holiday Tipping! (doormen, super, sitter etc...)

It’s that wonderfully stressful time of the year again! The bells are tolling, the children are singing, and you can’t stop thinking about how much you should tip your doorman, super, dog walker, cleaning lady, milkman, elevator boy (um… you’ll see what we mean) or whoever. Of course your friends are utterly useless — they’re just as clueless on holiday tipping as you.

Not to worry: despite our years of living in NYC, we still haven’t figured it out, either.

So we did what any savvy New York apartment dweller would do. We dug through a little research, quizzed our most organized friends, crunched a few numbers, and then threw back a few drinks to restore our sanity after taking on this task for yet another year. Then we called up our friend Terri at NYC real estate survival website BrickUnderground to thank her for her wonderful “2011 Holiday Tipping Guide.”

And what became of our efforts, you ask? We present the Rentenna “Tips on Holiday Tipping” Infographic. (Please click on link to see full infographic) Use it as your tipping cheat-sheet this holiday season (and share it with friends / neighbors to make sure you don’t get out-tipped — collusion style).

We hope these Tips on Holiday Tipping bring you some peace of mind and holiday cheer. And if things are a bit tight this year, don’t forget: the only real rule of holiday tipping is to give what you can afford (but not so little that your super “accidentally” gifts you a ravenous colony of bed bugs next spring).
