Don't be a human bobblehead

Whether in marriages or in any relationship, we can’t behave like bobbleheads: Stiffed-necked and immovable; nodding our heads in agreement, merely for the sake of false peace or to appear "holy" or "righteous", yet resolved not to put anything we hear into practice.

Jesus said, “This people honors Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.” (Matthew 15:8)

As Christians, we’re commanded by God to be doers, not merely hearers or agree-ers of His word.

“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” ~1 John 3:18

Just talking about God and all the “right” and “good” things to do, does not make you a doer of the Word; it only makes you a speaker of the wind. Like the wind, all your talking comes and goes, but there’s no lasting affect in your life or others (James 1:22-25).

It's good to pray for others and agree with sound doctrine and biblical teaching, but without actually practicing what we profess to agree with or actively love those we are praying for, we prove we are merely Pharisees in sheep’s clothing. “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:17)

As co-heirs with Christ Jesus our Lord, let us remain steadfast in our devotion to our heavenly Father and seek every opportunity He has laid before us to pray for, bless, love and do good to others while we still have time. None of us are guaranteed our next breath; neither you yourself, nor the people God has providentially placed in your life.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them....Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is...What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

“But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” ~Ephesians 2:10; 5:15-17; James 2:14-18 (ESV, emphasis mine)
