To change your body, you must understand how your body works. You have to understand that muscle IS your metabolism. Therefore, anything that is detrimental to your muscle will ultimately result in a loss of muscle, and therefore a slower metabolism. Starvation diets cause muscle loss. Overtraining without adequate and proper nutrition causes muscle loss. Not getting enough complete proteins (proteins that contain all of the essential amino acids) in your diet can result in muscle loss. Doing cardio only type workouts and avoiding resistance training can result in muscle loss. You MUST know how your body works if you hope to speed your metabolism and lose body fat. And, you absolutely MUST know that there is NO magical herbal drink, NO magical veggie drink and NO magical formula that will give you a hard body. So STOP being gullible!
John Parrillo from parrillo.com puts it best. John says, “There are different kinds of calories. Some foods make you fat and some foods just naturally make you lean and muscular. Your worst enemies are fatty foods and simple sugars. Conventional dietary fats are very prone to be stored as body fat. After being digested, these fats are transported to fat depots and stored. Simple sugars and other refined carbohydrates are released into the bloodstream more rapidly than they can be used for energy or converted to glycogen. This elicits a large insulin release which in turn causes the excess sugar to be converted to fat. On the other hand, excess calories from protein and unrefined complex carbohydrates have less tendency to be stored as fat.”
If carbs are released into your bloodstream faster than they can be used for energy or to replace glycogen stores, the excess will be stored as fat. In addition, you need to know that there isn't a shake made that will produce the results that real food will. Shakes are meant to be a supplement, not to replace meals. If you CAN'T eat real food, then do a shake. If you have the choice, always choose real food!
